The State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom and National Research Centre “Kurchatov Institute” took part in the Annual European Research Reactor Conference held on March 24-28, 2019 in Jordan. Conference program included several presentations given by representatives of Rosatom and Russia’s National Research Centre “Kurchatov Institute”.
Dmitry Vysotski, Director for Nuclear Research Reactors at Rusatom Overseas (part of Rosatom State Corporation) highlighted that there is a significant interest in the topic of research reactors in the world nuclear industry as well as recent Rosatom engagements in major projects in this field. “Our industry has seen many developments with new research reactors construction projects taking off, in particular, those with the involvement of Rosatom and Russia. These are such projects as start of construction works on the site of the Center for Nuclear Technology Research and Development (CNTRD) on the territory of Bolivia on the basis of research reactor and siting works on the site of the Center for Nuclear Science and Technology (CNST) in the Republic of Zambia. Back home in Russia we can mention major developments on two research reactor projects, such as energy start-up of the National Research Centre “Kurchatov Institute” facility PIK high-flux reactor at the beginning of 2019, where Russia plans to have an International cooperation center on neutron research. The other one is Rosatom’s key international R&D cooperation project – International Research Center based on fast sodium reactor - MBIR, which commissioning is scheduled for 2024. We have formed the Russian view of the 2025 – 2035 multilateral research program on MBIR and hope that some of you will join us in its further development and execution”, he stated.
Besides presentations, Rosatom took part in the exhibition on site of RRFM conference. Visitors of Rosatom booth learnt about recent developments and progress of Rosatom State Corporation projects based on research reactors.
